Dear Little Host

Dear Little Host, in you resides,
My only God and Lord above,
Who all my heart’s desires provides,
When He Himself bestows on me.

Oh, what a precious, solemn day,
First time my God, so pure and bright,
Within my being came to stay,
And let me rest before His light.

He filled my heart with heaven’s bliss,
With love He drew my soul to Him,
Refreshed my soul with His kiss,
Within His Heart, He placed me in.

Since then, O Lord, how many times,
In sorrow, struggles, at the altar’s plea,
I sought Your strength, Your solace sweet,
In You, all suffering calmed in me.

How many times to this my heart,
You came, as to Your Kingdom’s space,
And there, dear Lord, from all apart,
I found my rest in my Beloved’s Heart.

O dear Jesus, I beg and pray to Thee,
Within Thy Divine Heart, hold ever me.
May all my joy forever be in You,
For You alone, the One, the only True,
Can satisfy desires of this my heart,
Which wholly now to You I shall impart.

Dear Little Host, come to my heart, I plead,
Come, my Beloved, to Your home indeed.
Though poor it is, and wretched, bare and frail,
Yet You, with grace’s snowy, pure white veil,
Can for Yourself adorn it, make it grand.

Oh, grant that I may serve You faithfully,
Your holy will fulfill perpetually,
With You, my soul’s deep hunger ever feed,
My heart’s desires quench, fulfill its need,
From Life’s own fount draw life, so rich and free,
And yield my entire self completely to Thee.

Can this poor creature dream of any bliss,
Beyond this union, Lord, in holy kiss,
With You, O Lord, within this Sacrament,
Where You embrace it, in Your love intent,
You draw my heart to Your most sacred Wounds,
And sweetly whisper: “I am your God, your Lord.”

Blessed Mary of Jesus the Good Shepherd (Frances Siedliska) was the Mother Foundress of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, a worldwide religious order celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. Today we celebrate her feast day. The order has a convent in Monroe, Conn., and its sisters minister throughout Fairfield County.
