Job Title: Catholic Cemeteries Field Worker
Department: Cemeteries Division
Reports To: Catholic Cemeteries Field Supervisor
Location: Assigned Cemetery/Cemeteries
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Overall Responsibility: The Catholic Cemeteries Field Worker participates in interments, entombments, inurnments, and disinterment as well as the installation of memorials and markers. Performs grounds and facilities maintenance keeping the cemetery grounds to our high standard.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs openings & closings for interments, entombments, and inurnments
- Assembles and sets foundations, memorials, and markers in their proper location
- Completes work orders pertaining to individual grave and marker maintenance
- Performs all grounds work, including but not limited to landscaping, maintenance, private estate care, and mausoleum care
- Ensures grounds are kept appropriately maintained and directly performs grounds upkeep by mowing, cutting shrubbery, trimming trees, raising footstones, keeping the garage area neat and organized, sweeping roads, blowing, and picking up leaves, and emptying and cleaning trash receptacles utilizing appropriate equipment
- Conducts Interment Verification Procedures
- Fills grave, tamps, seeds, or sods
- Performs seasonal grounds keeping including ice and snow removal
- Performs general Maintenance
- Adheres to all Company safety rules and Universal Precautions
- Maintains and protects Company assets by performing regular basic preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and facilities
- Performs all responsibilities in a ministerial capacity, with demonstrated compassion, empathy, and understanding for those grieving, attending funerals, and visiting graves
- Works collaboratively with cemetery staff in all cemetery operations
- Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, in all weather conditions including some Saturdays.
- Expected to wear an assigned uniform

Skills & Abilities:
- High School diploma or GED
- Previous cemetery and or landscaping experience preferred
- It is essential that the individual be courteous, articulate, reliable, and able to work cemetery hours
- Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, bending, hearing, and twisting.
- Heavy Work: Exerting 50-100 pounds occasionally, 25 -50 pounds frequently, and 10 up to 20 pounds constantly.
- May be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and humidity, respiratory hazards, noise, and vibration.
- Ability to read and understand the English language
- Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment, including, but not limited to a shovel, pick, rake, sledgehammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer, leaf blower, chain saw, and pump
- Ability to operate mechanical equipment including, but not limited to, a dump truck, tractor, utility vehicle, marker trailer, dump trailer, jackhammer, tamper, and backhoe
- Ability to accurately use measuring devices (i.e., tape measure, yardstick, etc.)
- Ability to communicate effectively with fellow associates, contractor personnel, and client families
- Understands and follows safety and security issues and implications
- Mechanical aptitude
- An active member of a parish preferred
