Above Ground Burial Structures
Most of our cemeteries offer multiple above-ground interment options including mausoleums, columbariums, private estates, and cremation walls. Mausoleums contain both full-body crypt (casket) spaces as well as niche spaces for urns containing the cremains. Our new St. Catherine of Siena Mausoleum at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull, Connecticut was completed in October 2022 and we are planning several more in the near future. Our cemeteries also provide columbariums which are generally outdoor structures containing niche spaces for urns. Some families choose to build a private mausoleum for their family. We will also shortly offer outdoor cremation walls at several cemeteries which are similar to columbariums but are linear in design versus a round structure.
Mausoleum Burial
A mausoleum burial involves an indoor or outdoor structure that provides a crypt (casket) space or a niche space for an urn with cremains. The crypt is sealed behind a marble ‘shutter front’ slab and the niche can be sealed behind marble or glass.
Columbarium Burial
A columbarium burial generally is an outdoor structure that provides niche spaces for urns with cremains. These are sealed behind marble slabs.
