“The Eucharist for me is healing. The Eucharist for me is peace. The Eucharist for me is my grounding. The Eucharist for me is his heart within me.”
— Jonathan Roumie

When Jesus calls, some people stop what they’re doing and take the time to listen. Others, sadly, ignore the call, but that doesn’t stop him from continuing to knock at the door of their hearts. He can be pretty persistent.

It was Sharon’s 92nd birthday and all her children were there to celebrate, a proud occasion for them and a chance to look back and reminisce. In her 90s, she was still physically active and still driving. They lit the candles, they sang happy birthday and she blew them out, and she made her wishes. Everyone had a piece of cake to celebrate the wonderful occasion. But she had something really important to do. She left the party, she got in her car and she drove to Eucharistic Adoration. Can you imagine the Joy with a capital J that Jesus must have felt to see her on her 92nd birthday. The joy was mutual. She was in the company of the person who loved her like no other.

Eucharistic AdorationMarilyn used to sit at her desk during lunch. Her colleagues went to the restaurant, some went to the park, others walked around the block of the office building for some exercise. And after weeks of the same routine, sitting there at her desk, another thought came into her mind for a different way to spend that time. She was convinced it was the Holy Spirit telling her what to do. What better way to spend her lunchtime than in the presence of the Person who is perfect listener and attentive to our every need.

Phil had been depressed for days. He wanted to be optimistic about the future, but he was still waiting for the test results and the anxiety seemed to suffocate him. How could he be hopeful. He imagined the worst because pretty soon the worst would come the same way it did for his mother, with cancer and Alzheimer’s. He didn’t know where to turn. He didn’t know who to talk to, and then it occurred to him there was only one Person who would truly understand, so he got in his car late at night and drove to the seminary where Jesus was waiting, in the monstrance at the adoration chapel … where Jesus was always waiting.
