The Healing Journey

Terri’s mother Margaret was 101 when she died. She did a lot in that century of life. She had a career in nursing. She raised seven children, five of them girls. And as her obituary said, “She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother whose legacy of dedication will live on for generations to come.” But there was more. She was active in her church and community, a Girl Scout mom — how could she not be active in the Girl Scouts with five daughters? She was a daily communicant at her parish, the Church of the Immaculate Conception. She was active in the different ministries, among them Habitat for Humanity, Bible study and the hospital visitation.

“She lived her faith daily for more than a hundred years and established that legacy in her own children to carry on,” her obituary said. “Margaret enjoyed the quality time spent with family and friends during the holidays, and making special trips to spend time together.”

She also loved owls and the Blessed Mother, and collected statuettes and figurines of them throughout her life.

So when Terri called her friend Sandy, who also had a devotion to the Blessed Mother and asked whether she would like two planters of the Blessed Mother, Sandy immediately responded, “Yes, I’d be so honored to have them.”

What a wonderful gift. Something so meaningful to her during her life was shared with someone else to love and cherish.
