On May 9, 2026, a special Mother’s Day Mass was held at Little Angels Shrine at Resurrection Cemetery in Newtown, CT, for grieving parents who have lost a child, including through miscarriage and stillbirth.
The parents found support in their common grief and assurance that their children were watching over them and waiting for them in heaven. Father Peter Cipriani, pastor of St. Rose of Lima Parish, celebrated Mass and was assisted by Deacon Don Ross.
Father Cipriani delivered his homily about grief, eternal life and the Holy Spirit, the pattering of rain and the voices of little children offered a moving counterpoint. When he was preparing to write it, he was challenged by the sensitivity of the occasion and sought inspiration.
