“When will you rescue me?”
This French holy card from the mid-1800s pictures a young woman, who is alone and adrift on a raging sea, symbolic of the suffering and tragedy all of us encounter in our lives, especially when we lose someone we love.
The words on the front of the card can be translated,
“My soul is in extreme trouble: When will you come to rescue me, Lord?” It is question all of us will ask many times throughout our lives, when we find ourselves alone and adrift amid the turmoil and pain of life.
