A traditional Celtic poem
Only a Breath Away
You may be a scholar, able to speak Greek and Hebrew;
But in death, only the language of God matters.
You may be a craftsman, able to fashion fine furniture;
But in death, only God’s spiritual handiwork survives.
You may be a musician, able to play the harp and lyre;
But in death, only the Spirit’s music persists.
You may be a priest, able to recite long prayers;
But in death, only prayers of the heart are heard.
Death is only a breath away.
So listen for God’s word,
Be transformed by God’s hand,
Move to God’s rhythm,
And pray to God with all your heart.
