All Souls Day Masses Scheduled at Cemeteries
Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Bridgeport will have Masses on All Souls Day, November 2, at six of their cemeteries at 11 a.m. All Souls Day also called the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, is a time for us to pray and remember all of our deceased loved ones. These Masses will be offered for the repose of the souls of all the faithful departed.
Catholics are encouraged to pray that all those who have died may rest in the peace of Christ. It is also a time when Catholics can obtain plenary indulgences for those who may be in purgatory.
All Souls Day Masses will be celebrated on Saturday, November 2, at 11:00 a.m., rain or shine. Tents and portable facilities will be provided.
“While hosting the All Souls Day Masses in six of our cemeteries is quite a large project, the feedback we get from the attendees makes it very rewarding,” said Kenn Devane, the head of Cemetery Relations.
“They have told us how comforted they were by being so close to their loved ones while listening to the priest and music, how they enjoy going to their family member’s graves after the mass to pray, and how special it is to receive the Lourdes Holy Water as a way to remember the event,” he said.
In addition to the masses, some parishes also pray the rosary with a priest at several of the other cemeteries.
“We feel this is a good way to bring people back to the cemeteries so they can worship together and know that they and their deceased loved ones are not alone,” he said.
The Masses will be celebrated at these six Diocesan Cemeteries, and holy water from Lourdes, France, will be distributed after Mass.
