Carolyn Killian, Director of Melanie Barnard is a volunteer with the “Conversation Project,” a group that sponsors panel discussions on end-of-life questions from a Catholic perspective. One of the sessions will be held September 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Leo Church Parish on 24 Roxbury Road in Stamford. All are invited, and admission is free. Melanie wrote the following piece to provide more information about the medical, legal and spiritual topics that are discussed.

OK. Let’s face it. We are not going to live forever. When the time comes for us to be called Home to the Father, will we have all our affairs in order and spend our last days in peace and hope of the eternal life ahead? All good, but there are those pesky details. Do I have a will? Where is it? How about the bank account numbers? And what about all those passwords? What does ‘intubated’ mean? Does my family know all these things? And where are they? In the safe deposit box or the kitchen drawer? And where is the key? It’s time to have that conversation!
The Conversation Project is an upbeat, thorough discussion with a panel of Catholic professionals on such topics as: What exactly is a last will and testament? How about a power of attorney? What is a DNR? A DNI? How does the Church feel about cremation?
We invite you to hear from a panel who can answer these questions — a lawyer, a nurse-turned-hospital chaplain, and a local priest. We can make it easy to talk about and make decisions with your family so that when the time comes, everyone will be on the same page as you turn the page to your journey to Heaven.
