When John got a call from a former colleague that their former boss, Ken, died, it brought back a lot of memories of their years working together. Sure, they had disagreements, but retirement somehow laid all the anger and quarreling to rest. Time has a funny way of helping you forget some of the bad stuff … or at least lead you to think it wasn’t as bad as you believed it was back then.

Man sitting by the oceanJohn thought about Ken. They had worked together for 15 years, and although he wouldn’t want to do it all over again, there were some good times. Then, he came to an unsettling realization. Many of the people he worked with during those days were gone. Ken, Ken’s boss, Ken’s boss’s boss, along with three other coworkers, Arthur and Bruce and Barry. A chill passed through him to realize he was probably one of the few left from that era.

The longer he thought about those people who had been close, dealing with day-to-day crises, sharing their personal pain and joys, the more he longed to see them again. That’s what it was — a desire to see them again and reminisce. They were gone, but his sadness turned to joy because he looked forward to the day they would be together. Once he got over the ups and downs, he concluded there were more ups than downs. Yes, he had been truly blessed to have them in his life … and he was sure the great reunion was something worth waiting for.
