A New Year in search of hope
For most people, the New Year is celebrated joyously with new hope and promise … except for those who are grieving.
Those suffering a loss, whether it is recent or past, can find the words “Happy New Year” incredibly painful. So, let’s all make a New Year’s resolution to demonstrate more compassion and sympathy for others. Consider reaching out to those who are grieving with a phone call, an email or a personal note, where you tell them that you realize this must be a very difficult time for them … and that you are thinking of them. You might even consider saying a silent prayer of comfort that they have healing in the coming days.
That’s all that is required. Very simple, very meaningful. Let someone who is hurting know that in this moment, they are not alone. This compassionate gesture will make a world of difference to someone with a broken heart, and might even give them a ray of hope in the New Year.
