The following excerpt is taken from “Imagine Heaven Devotional: Reflections to Bring Heaven to Your Life Today” by John and Kathy Burke.
Remember what it was like to have endless energy as a child? Recall the strength and stamina of those teen years? In the life to come, not only will we be free of the pains and worries of this earthly body, we will feel young again!
When the little children flocked to Jesus, he said, “The kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Luke 18:16). It is comforting to know that the sufferings of this life are just “birth pains” preparing us for a time where the innocence, wonder, and excitement we felt as children are reborn in us.
Sometimes it might be hard to imagine feeling energetic and strong again, when you must cope with so much hardship here on earth. Your current sufferings matter to God, and he eternally rewards those who endure by faith. He is full of compassion and cares about what you are going through. God promises you that your sufferings in this life will be nothing compared to the vibrant, pain-free life you will experience forever in Heaven! You can stand on this promise and let it empower you to live with purpose each day.
Jesus wants to enter into your suffering with you to carry you through it. He can give you joy even through the difficulties of life. Lean on him today in your trials and hardships, and remember to pray for those experiencing the same. Hold on to the hope of Heaven where all will be restored!
