Sunday phone calls
By Brian D. Wallace
You had a beautiful voice once
Singing in the St. Theresa choir
But I remember your last voice now
Shaky, singsong, ancient
wishing us well over the telephone
Before even that was taken
On Sundays when the phone rings
I hear you all over again
Though now the season does the talking
The wind singing you today
Leaves buzzing in their inspiration
With us left to find the meaning
Of your gone missing
with autumn blowing in.
