That I Could Shed a Tear
Oh, that I could shed a tear,
Instead of living in the fear
That someone standing close will see
I’ve really lost control of me.
We men are not supposed to cry,
Though I could never fathom why.
We’re human, too, and have emotions.
But we are calm through all commotions.
Never show the turmoil within;
Grin and bear through think and thin.
Oh, that I would ever start
To show I have a broken heart.
Letting others really see
My inner self — the real me.
Oh, if I should shed a tear
The real me would soon appear.
Then the Lord would have His way
And I’d be free that very day.
Oh, that I could shed a tear …
