Reflecting Back

Reflecting back to the days
When I wasn’t so wise,
Thought I knew what was best,
But I was in for a big surprise.
Tried to do everything my own way —
In need of no one else.
Thought I had it all,
But all I had was my empty self.
Desperately searched for something
To fill the vacant spaces.
I looked for it in activities.
I looked for it in friends.
I looked for it in all the wrong places.
But when I needed it the most,
It came right out of the blue.
The empty void in my life was filled.
Lord, it was filled and filled with You.
The thing I had searched to find
Was there all along.
I am so glad to have found you, Lord.
And to have found out that it is with you I belong.
