“There’s no place like home..”
― Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz

So often, when an old friend or family member dies, we’ll go home for the first time in a long time … and a flood of memories pours over us when we return.

Lainey WilsonLainey Wilson’s song “Out of Oklahoma” is about home and has inspired many people to remember where they grew up. Home is the place we want to be when we find ourselves lost and hurting and longing. Home is the place that’s safe and comforting. Home holds a 1000 memories. Home will be part of every healing journey.

One man responded to the song “Out of Oklahoma” and said: “My wife was from Dustin, Oklahoma. She was the love of my life for 44 of her 70 years. I lost her to pancreatic cancer last August. She ended up in Pennsylvania, where I live. She lost her Okie twang through the years, but I could always tell when she had a phone conversation with one of her sisters back home. The twang came back.”

Out of Oklahoma

I been dreamin’, I been drivin’
Tryin’ to stay between the lines of
Who I am and who I used to be
I been livin’, I been losin’
Walkin’ miles in different shoes and
Findin’ out I can’t run from me

[Pre-Chorus]
And if I ever get a little too far
I remember where I left my heart

[Chorus]
Can’t take the home out of Oklahoma
It’s where my soul was born to be (Home)
No matter where I’m goin’, I’m a wild wind blowin’
Just a-rollin’ like a tumbleweed
Can’t take the home out of Oklahoma
So you can’t take it out of me

The sky is cryin’, Mama’s callin’
Paint is peelin’, grass is tall and
I’m still feelin’ like I don’t belong
Water tower, graffiti faded
Am I older or just jaded?
Everything and nothin’ changed at all

[Chorus]
Can’t take the home out of Oklahoma (Home)
It’s where my soul was born to be (Home)
No matter where I’m goin’, I’m a wild wind blowin’
Just a-rollin’ like a tumbleweed
Can’t take the home out of Oklahoma
So you can’t take it out of me

[Chorus]
Can’t take the home out of Oklahoma (Home)
It’s where my soul was born to be (Home)
No matter where I’m goin’, I’m a wild wind blowin’
Just a-rollin’ like a tumbleweed
Can’t take the home out of Oklahoma
So you can’t take it out of me (Home)
Can’t take it out of me (Home)
