For many years, I went to Eucharistic Adoration from 2 to 3 in the morning. When I was driving to the chapel, the bars were letting out. I’d pass speed traps, where the police were waiting for tipsy drivers going home. Cars were pulled over on the highway, while men and women took sobriety tests. It was a crazy time of night.
As I got near the church, I drove by a bar at closing hour. Young people were stumbling to their cars …yelling, laughing, arguing and falling down. I used to be one of them but no more.
What a relief to arrive at the adoration chapel, what a relief to be welcomed by the Blessed Sacrament in a gold monstrance. I was the only one there. It was a silent and serene place, where I could be alone with my best friend in the world … a friend who was infinitely patient and listened to my problems, my complaints, my joys, my sorrows.
You can’t find a friend like that anywhere else — and you certainly can’t find him on a barstool. My Holy Hour usually began like this: “Jesus, you’re not going to believe the week I had! “Lord, help me!”
Let me tell you a secret, but don’t keep it to yourself: The answer to every problem lies in the tabernacle. Only in the tabernacle will you find everything you need.
Are you having problems with your marriage? Sit in front of the Blessed Sacrament.
Did a family member or friend die? Sit in front of the Blessed Sacrament.
Are you having difficulties at work? Sit in front of the Blessed Sacrament.
Are you facing financial problems … or an illness? Sit in front of the Blessed Sacrament.
Are you Depressed? Guilty? Lonely? Angry? Unloved? Sit in front of the Blessed Sacrament.
All the answers lie in the tabernacle.
