Patty D. was present when her grandson Jack was born on July 18, 2019. Her son John was ecstatic because a third John Dillon had been born. It was an enormous joy for a family whose joy was overshadowed by John’s diagnosis of incurable brain cancer. John died on February 20, 2022, at 36 years old. Young Jack recently celebrated his 6th birthday, and Patty wrote this account of an “angel visitation.”

Today is my grandson Jack’s 6th birthday. He is my son’s son. Although the “official” family party is tomorrow, his grandfather and I had dinner with my daughter-in-law Melissa and Jack.

John DillonAfter attending a wake, I was on my way to their home when I made a last-minute decision to get my car washed. While waiting, I noticed the car in front of me had a Providence College sticker. That was my son’s alma mater. When the driver got out of the car, I opened my window and told her that my son was Class of ’07. She replied that she has one son going into senior year and another son entering as a freshman. Tuition must be a nightmare!

She waved and said, “Go Friars!”

After paying, we ended up chatting. She was curious to know if my son had a job when he graduated. I told her he went to law school. Fast forward to after chit-chat about our sons.

Again, we swapped some information about ourselves. I told her that I was on my way to my grandson’s birthday dinner. I then told her that my son passed away 3 1/2 years ago. She was so overcome that she started to cry. I tried to reassure her that I knew he was around when I saw her sticker. She said, “You have to have faith.”

Our cars were ready. We hugged like old friends, and she asked me my name so she could pray for me. Her name was Faith.

God knows when we need a sign. This was a very powerful one. I had to share this angel visitation.
