Simple Joys
By Patricia A. Nikolaisen
As I awoke one morning early on,
A flight of robins graced the lawn.
Their brightness cheered my gloomy soul;
For years of drabness take their toll.
I take my pleasures as they come,
From the gifts the Father gives His sons,
The simple things that pass my way,
A lovely sound, a pleasant day.
These treasures none can wrest from me,
Unlike financial treasures be.
As I count them o’er in my mind,
Those second thoughts still cheer, I find.
My Father grants me to enjoy
His creation on every side;
But I must remember to speak my thanks,
If I would in His Joy abide.
